Welcome to Whiskers 'n Tails Cattery,    breeders of large ragdolls and kittens located in Maryland.  Our kittens are born and raised in our home under foot. They receive plenty of love and attention from us. Ragdolls  make excellent pets and provide lots of companionship. All of our breeding ragdolls and their litters are registered with TICA.  The Ragdolls cats and kittens in our home are free of Fip/Felv. Our breeding ragdolls are tested for Fip/Felv and we remain a closed cattery.  We emphasize health, personality, and size.  We adhere to a strict feeding program to ensure your Ragdoll kitten comes to you in the best of health.

Ragdolls are blue eyed cats that come in these basic patterns: colorpoint, bicolor, lynx or "tabby", mitted, tortie, and flame.  The traditional colors are seal (very dark brown to black), chocolate, blue (slate grey-blue), and lilac or frost (soft pinkish grey).  In recent times, other colors are red and cream.

Background:

Ann Baker from California was the breed founder of Ragdolls just prior to 1965.  She bred a white Persian or Angora type cat named Josephine with a sacred cat of Burma (Burma type cat) whose subsequent offspring were then crossed with a sable Burmese type cat. The name was chosen because of its ability and habit of relaxing in the same manner as that of a "Ragdoll".

Ragdoll kittens love to play, curious as all kittens and cuddle.  As mature adults, they are great with children, love company and are close companions.  They have puppy-like characteristics by following their owners around the house and they love to play and do tricks.  They adapt well in their new surroundings with family pets.  Ragdolls have a quiet voice and they are strictly an "indoor cat". The cats are not big fighters and should never be let outdoors unless they are in a cat run or supervised on a leash and they should not be declawed. Here is a link showing why we do not allow declawing: http://www.xmission.com/~emailbox/declaw.htm .  Ragdolls cats are listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest domestic cats. Neutered males can weigh between 15-25 pounds and spayed females weigh about 5 pounds less. They do not reach full size until about 3 years of age. A Ragdoll's fur is semi long and has a silky texture that requires minimal grooming.
